Transmission Oil Pump

REMOVAL 

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the valve body. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  3. Remove and DISCARD  the transmission oil pump assembly to case bolts.

  4. Remove and DISCARD  the input shaft O-ring using a small pick or equivalent.

    1 - Transmission Oil Pump Assembly
  5. Carefully pry the transmission oil pump assembly away from the case with a small flat blade screwdriver or equivalent through the case opening.
  6. From the front of the transmission, remove the transmission oil pump assembly.

  7. Remove the B-clutch damper spring.

  8. Remove the B-piston from the assembly.

  9. Remove the snap ring.
  10. Remove the clutches and plates.

  12. Position the transmission oil pump housing assembly in a suitable press.
  13. Using (special tool #8285, Compressor, Spring), press on the fingers of the piston retainer to remove tension on the split retaining ring.

  14. Remove the two halves of the retaining ring.

  17. Remove the bolts and separate the transmission oil pump housing from the transmission oil pump front cover.

  18. Separate the transmission oil pump front cover from the transmission oil pump housing and DISCARD  the oil pump housing O-ring seal.

  19. Remove the drive sprockets, chain and pump body as an assembly.
  20. Remove and DISCARD  all O-rings.

INSTALLATION 

NOTE:

If transmission oil pump was disassembled, replace all O-rings.

  1. Install the drive sprockets, chain and pump body as an assembly into the transmission oil pump housing.

  2. Set the transmission oil pump front cover onto the transmission oil pump housing.

    NOTE:

    The transmission oil pump bolts under the A-clutch must be replaced.

  3. Install the NEW  bolts and tighten to 5 N. m + 45° (44 In. Lbs. + 45°)  .

  4. Install the A-clutch piston with NEW  O-ring seals.

  6. Position the transmission oil pump housing assembly in a suitable arbor press.
  7. Using (special tool #8285, Compressor, Spring), press down on the fingers of the piston retainer.

  8. Install the two retaining ring halves.

  12. Install a new B-piston seal.

  13. Install the B-clutch damper spring.
  14. Install a NEW  transmission oil pump front cover seal and install the oil pump in the case.

  15. Firmly press the transmission oil pump in place by hand before drawing it in with the NEW  transmission oil pump assembly to case bolts.

    Perform the following procedure to properly tighten the transmission oil pump assembly to case bolts:

    • Step 1: In order to seat the transmission oil pump properly, pre-tighten bolts (1), (7) and (9) to 6 N.m (53 in. lb.).
    • Step 2: Working in a clockwise pattern, begin tightening the oil pump cover bolts starting at (1). Tighten all bolts to 10 N.m (89 in. lb.).
    • Step 3: Working in a clockwise pattern, finish tightening the oil pump cover bolts starting at (1). Tighten each bolt an additional 90°.

  16. Install the NEW  input shaft O-ring.
  17. Install the valve body. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the transmission. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
