Clutch E - Disassembly And Adjustments

  1. Place the E-clutch in a suitable arbor press.
  2. Using (special tool #10429, Gauge, Force) (1) and (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) (3), apply 200 N (45 lbs.) to the backing plate of the E-clutch.

  3. Using a set of feeler gauges (2), measure the gap between the backing plate and the retainer of the E-clutch.
  4. Refer to the clutch measurements table for specifications. If clearance is not within specifications, a thinner or thicker selectable backing plate can be installed to achieve proper clearance. Refer to CLUTCH SPECIFICATIONS .

DISASSEMBLY

  1. Place the E-Clutch (2) in a suitable press.
  2. Using (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) (1), compress the E-Clutch piston (2) enough to remove the snap ring (3).

  3. Remove the E-Clutch piston support (1).

  4. Remove the E-Clutch piston (1).

    NOTE:

    Pay attention to the orientation of the plates.

  5. Remove the wave plate (1) and the friction and steel plates (2).

  6. Remove the backing plate (1).

  7. Remove the belleville spring (1) from the E-Clutch hub.

  8. Remove the E-Clutch seal (1) and O-ring (2).

ASSEMBLY 

NOTE:

If the clutch discs are being replaced, soak them in 8HP transmission fluid before assembly.

  1. Install the E-Clutch seal (1) and O-ring (2).

  2. Install the belleville spring (2) into the E-Clutch hub (1).

  3. Install the backing plate (1).

  4. Install the six friction and six steel plates (2), and install the wave plate (1).

  5. Install the E-Clutch piston (1) onto the hub.

  6. Install the E-Clutch piston support (1).

  7. Place the E-Clutch in a suitable arbor press.
  8. Using (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) (1) compress the E-Clutch (2) enough to install the snap ring (3).
