Clutch C - Disassembly And Adjustments

CLUTCH C MEASUREMENT: 

  1. Using (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) (2) and (special tool #10429, Gauge, Force) (1), place the C-clutch (3) in a suitable arbor press (with the backing plate facing up).

  2. Apply 200 N (45 lbs.) of force to the C-clutch to compress the wave plate.
  3. With a suitable feeler gauge, measure the gap between the C-clutch backing plate and the C-clutch retainer.
  4. Refer to clutch clearance table for specs. If clearance is not within specification a thinner or thicker selectable backing plate can be installed to achieve proper clearance. Refer to CLUTCH SPECIFICATIONS .

DISASSEMBLY

  1. Place the C-clutch (2) in a suitable press.
  2. Using (special tool #8680A, Installer, Damper) (1), compress the C-clutch (2) as needed to remove the snap ring (3).
  3. Remove the snap ring (3).

  4. Remove the C-clutch retainer (1).

  5. Remove the C-clutch piston (1).

  6. Remove the belleville spring (1).

  7. Remove the wave plate (1).

  8. Remove the six friction plates (2) and the six steel plates (3).

  9. Remove the backing plate (1).

  10. Separate the clutch shaft (3) from the clutch hub (1).

  11. Remove two O-rings (2) from the C-clutch shaft (1).

ASSEMBLY 

NOTE:

If clutch discs are being replaced, soak in 8HP trans fluid before assembly.

  1. Replace the C-clutch seals (2) on the C-clutch shaft (1).

  2. Install C-clutch hub (2) onto the C-clutch shaft (1).

  3. Install the backing plate (1).

  4. Install six friction plates (2) and six steel clutch plates (3).

  5. Install the wave plate (1).

  9. Place the C-clutch (2) in a suitable press.
  10. Using (special tool #8680A, Installer, Damper) (1), compress the clutch enough to install the snap ring (3).
  11. Install the snap ring (3).
  12. Using (special tool #8901A, Pressing Tool) and (special tool #10429, Gauge, Force) measure the C-clutch clearance, Refer to CLUTCH SPECIFICATIONS .
