Transmission Oil Cooler
DESCRIPTION: The automatic transmission fluid cooler is located within the air conditioning condenser. The transmission fluid cooler is a heat exchanger that allows heat in the transmission fluid to be transferred to the air passing over the cooler fins. The transmission fluid cooler assembly is equipped with a thermal bypass valve that incorporates the quick connect fitting for the transmission fluid cooler lines.
OPERATION: Transmission fluid is routed through the cooler where heat is removed from the transmission fluid before returning to the transmission. The transmission fluid cooler thermal bypass valve aids in achieving desired transmission oil operating temperature. It does this by recirculating the fluid back to the transmission without flowing through the transmission fluid cooler at low fluid temperatures.
