Rear Output Shaft Seal

REMOVAL
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Mark the rear driveshaft and flanges for reassembly alignment. Remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to
SHAFT, DRIVE, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
1 - Output Flange Nut - Remove the output flange nut.
1 - Output Flange - Remove the output flange from the transfer case with the O-ring seal.
1 - Output Flange Seal - Using a suitable tool, remove the output flange seal and DISCARD .
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
During installation torque the following fasteners to specification:
| Output Flange Nut | 165 N. m (122 Ft. Lbs.) | - |
| Rear Driveshaft To Flange Bolts | 56 N. m (41 Ft. Lbs.) | If removed, NEW bolts must be installed and tightened to specifications. |
- Use tool (special tool #9672, Installer, Seal) to install the output flange seal.
- Place the O-ring seal on the output shaft and install the pinion flange.
- If necessary, fill the transfer case to the proper fluid level. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
