Front Output Seal

REMOVAL
- Remove the transfer case. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Disassemble the transfer case.
1 - Front Output Shaft Seal - Using a suitable removal tool, remove the front output shaft seal and DISCARD .
INSPECTION AND CLEANING
Inspection
- Inspect the dust shield on the front output flange for damage. The dust shield should also be replaced if it is found to be damaged in any way to prevent damaging the new seal.
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
During installation torque the following fasteners to specification:

| Shift Motor M8 Cover Bolt | 11 N. m (97 In. Lbs.) | - |
| Shift Motor M10 Cover Bolt | 25 N. m (18 Ft. Lbs.) | - |
| Front Driveshaft To Flange Bolts | 56 N. m (41 Ft. Lbs.) | If removed, NEW bolts must be installed and tightened to specifications. |
| Rear Driveshaft To Flange Bolts | 56 N. m (41 Ft. Lbs.) | If removed, NEW bolts must be installed and tightened to specifications. |
- Use tool (special tool #9672, Installer, Seal) to install the output flange seal.
- Use tool (special tool #2049400210, Installer, Output Shaft Oil Slinger) to install the output flange dust shield.
- Place the O-ring seal on the output shaft and install the pinion flange.
- If necessary, fill the transfer case to the proper fluid level. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
