Crankshaft Main Bearings

INSPECTION
Wipe the bearing inserts clean and inspect for abnormal wear patterns and for metal or other foreign material imbedded in the lining. Normal main bearing wear patterns (2, 3) are illustrated on the lower insert (4).
NOTE:
If any crankshaft journals are scored, the crankshaft must be repaired or replaced.
Inspect the back of the bearing inserts for fractures, scrapes or irregular wear patterns.
Inspect the locking tabs for damage on the upper bearing insert (1).
Replace all damaged or worn bearing inserts.
