Diagnostic Test

- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the When Monitored and Set Conditions above and recorded data, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any DTCs present in the BSCM?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 3
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE BPP SENSOR FOR PROPER OPERATION NOTE:
This DTC can set if the vehicle is operated with one foot on the accelerator pedal and the other foot on the brake pedal. Check with the customer to determine if driving habits contributed to this DTC being set. No repairs should be attempted if customer uses both pedals at the same time.
- With the scan tool, read the BPP Sensor status while pressing and releasing the Brake Pedal.
Does the scan tool display Pressed and Released while pressing and releasing the Pedal?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
- With the scan tool, read the BPP Sensor status while pressing and releasing the Brake Pedal.
- PERFORM AN APP SENSOR SWEEP TEST WHILE MONITORING THE APP VOLTAGE NOTE:
If the Accelerator Pedal assembly becomes mechanically stuck the APP Sensor voltage output will stay fixed, if this is also followed by a long application of the brakes, this code will set.
- Turn the ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, monitor both APP Sensor voltage values.
- Slowly press the accelerator pedal until it reaches the end stop near the floor.
- APP Sensor 1 voltage should start at approximately 0.45 volts and increase to approximately 4.6 volts. No sudden changes in voltage should be observed.
- APP Sensor 2 voltage should start at approximately 0.22 volts and increase to approximately 2.31. No sudden changes in voltage should be observed.
Were any unexpected or sudden changes in voltage observed during the sweep test?
Yes
- Replace the APP Sensor Assembly in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to PEDAL, ACCELERATOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION . After installation is complete, with a scan tool select the ETC RELEARN function to relearn the APP Sensor values.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- With the scan tool, navigate to BSCM, Misc. Functions, and perform the Brake Pedal Calibration Routine.
- Test drive the vehicle and verify that the Brake Pedal Calibration fixed the problem.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
