Exhaust Muffler

REMOVAL 

  1. Lower the spare tire.
  2. Remove the left and right rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Saturate the clamp nuts with Mopar® Rust Inhibitor. Allow 5 minutes for penetration.

  4. Remove the wheelhouse splash shield fasteners and separate the left and right wheelhouse splash shield from the rear fascia.

    1 - Ground Strap
    2 - Exhaust Isolator Bolt
    NOTE:

    It is not necessary to remove the ground strap, unless the exhaust isolator is being replaced.

  5. Remove the left rear exhaust isolator bolt.

  6. Remove the right exhaust isolator bolt.
  7. Remove the spare tire heat shield. Refer to SHIELD, HEAT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  8. Loosen both exhaust muffler clamp nuts.
  9. Support the exhaust system with a suitable stand.
  10. Remove both exhaust isolator bolts.

  11. Remove the left exhaust isolator bolt.

  12. Remove the right exhaust isolator bolt.

  13. Remove the rear fascia fasteners across the bottom.

    1 - Exhaust Muffler
    NOTE:

    Exhaust muffler removal is a two-person operation.

    NOTE:

    Reposition portions of the rear fascia for removal of the exhaust muffler.

  14. With the help of an assistant, remove the exhaust muffler.

INSTALLATION 

NOTE:

Exhaust muffler installation is a two-person operation.

  1. With the help of an assistant, install and support the exhaust muffler.
  2. Install the rear fascia fasteners across the bottom and securely tighten.
  3. Install the right exhaust isolator bolt and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the left exhaust isolator bolt and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Install both front exhaust isolators bolts and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Remove the stand supporting the exhaust system.
  7. Tighten both exhaust muffler clamp nuts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  8. Install the spare tire heat shield. Refer to SHIELD, HEAT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  9. Install the right rear exhaust isolator bolt and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  10. Install the left rear exhaust isolator bolt and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  11. Position the left and right wheelhouse splash shield to the rear fascia. Install the fasteners and securely tighten.
  12. Install the left and right rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  13. Raise the spare tire back in place.
  14. Make sure the exhaust system is correctly positioned and properly aligned. The minimum clearance between components is 25.4 mm (1 in.). Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
  15. Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks. Repair exhaust leaks as necessary.
