Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) Switch

The EVIC control switch pod is LIN unit that communicates the switch states of the EVIC control switch pod, the remote DSM switches, the horn switch and the heated steering wheel sensor (if equipped) over the LIN data bus to the LIN master node integral to the SCCM located on the top of the steering column below the clockspring. The SCCM then forwards the data to the BCM. The BCM gates the message to the IPC and DSM as needed.
The EVIC control switch pod contains five push buttons whose functions are:
- Down Arrow - Pressing and releasing the Down Arrow push button allows the operator to scroll downward through the various EVIC main menus and sub menus.
- Left Arrow - Pressing and releasing the Left Arrow push button returns you to the previous sub menu or main menu.
- OK - Push the OK button to access/select the information screens or submenu screens of the Main Menu item. Push and hold the OK arrow button for one second to reset the displayed/selected features that can be reset.
- Right Arrow - Pressing and releasing the Right Arrow (Select) push button allows the operator to navigate, select and reset items or settings in the currently displayed EVIC main menu or sub menu. Pressing and holding the Right Arrow (Select) push button for two seconds provides a global reset of all of those EVIC features that can be reset, whether currently displayed or not.
- Up Arrow - Pressing and releasing the Up Arrow push button allows the operator to scroll upward through the various EVIC main menus and sub menus.
For vehicles equipped with the Uconnect® Hands Free Communication System, the EVIC control switch pod contains three additional switch push buttons whose functions are:
- Voice Recognition (VR) - This switch push button activates the Uconnect® Voice Command system.
- Phone Pick-Up - This switch push button activates the Uconnect® Hands Free Phone system.
- Phone Hang-Up - This switch push button disconnects the Uconnect® Hands Free Phone system.
The LIN slave node circuitry of the LIN module or the cruise control switch pod provides current for all of the switches and sensors on the rotating steering wheel as well as for the LED back lighting of both the cruise control and the EVIC control switch pods. The SCCM continually monitors all of the hard wired speed control switch circuits as well as the LIN bus data. The SCCM will store a Signal Not Available (SNA) code for any LIN bus input errors. The SCCM also communicates with other electronic modules over the CAN data bus. Therefore, any SCCM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) information can be retrieved using a diagnostic scan tool connected to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
EVIC Display
The EVIC features a driver-interactive display. The display is located in the middle of the IPC between the speedometer and tachometer. This system conveniently allows the driver to select a from a variety of useful information by pressing the switches mounted on the steering wheel. The EVIC displays information related to the following:
- Speedometer.
- Vehicle Information.
- Fuel Economy.
- Trip Information.
- Stop/Start.
- Trailer Tow.
- Personal Settings (customer programmable features).
- Audio.
- Stored Messages.
- Screen Set Up.
The EVIC system is comprised of several different components. Those components are:
- IPC.
- Steering wheel switches.
- CAN data bus.
- LIN slaved to the SCCM which then uses the BCM to gate bus signals.
