A-PILLAR CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Lower A-pillar - Check the front door cut line lip at the beltline for rolling over when closing door. Replace seal if damaged or deformed.
- Lower A-pillar - Verify steeple foam at lower A-pillar is hiding frame metal and contacting drain tube foam 2-3 mm overlap beyond metal edge.
- With the windshield frame lowered no metal should be visible between the foam.
- The upper foam (1) should sit flush against the lower foam (2) and seal against the frame fully.
- Lower A-pillar - Check front door flag applique (2) is fully seated to body and outer glass seal. Verify the glass seal and outer belt molding are not pinching each other together (1).
- Remove and apply foam tape on inner side of applique (1) and reinstall.
B-PILLAR CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Upper B-pillar - Verify super mucket is not sitting too far outboard on the B-pillar. Press in with top fully secured to address this issue.
- Upper B-pillar - Verify the feathered edge of the super mucket is not rolled underneath the panel or damaged.
- Verify the push pins are fully seated to prevent super mucket from traveling off position.
- Verify the rear outboard freedom panel foam is in correct location, the lower foam (1) is overlapping foam (2) and sealing to mucket.
- Check that the interior foam above the B-pillar is present and sealed fully to the top.
C-PILLAR CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Verify C-pillar mucket (2) is in proper position at beltline. Replace if damaged or deformed.
- Lower C-pillar - Verify there is no gap where C-pillar mucket interfaces with top (1). If a gap exists, raise the top and add foam tape to fill void.
DOOR CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Adjust the doors to the correct locations, Refer to GAP AND FLUSH, SPECIFICATIONS .
- Verify the door seal (1) is in the proper position and all pins are properly seated.
- Check for skips, voids, or damage in the seal retainer sealer (1) and using a paintable repair sealer Part No. 04318026AB or equivalent, repair as needed.
- Make sure retainer gap foam is present and in good condition and the door seal (2) is seated into the retainers (3) fully.
- Lower A-pillar - Check the front door cut line lip at the beltline for rolling over when closing door. Replace seal if damaged or deformed.
- Verify outer door glass seal (1) is fully seated to door glass flange.
- Verify outer belt seal (1) is pushed back against the seal (2) and seated fully.
- Check front door inner belt molding fits tight to the front weatherstrip channel - Reposition belt molding forward or replace inner belt molding.
- Check front door flag applique (2) is fully seated to body and outer glass seal. Verify the glass seal and outer belt molding are not pinching each other together (1).
- Remove and apply foam tape on inner side of applique (1) and reinstall.
FREEDOM PANELS CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Set freedom panel gap/flush at front receivers, Refer to REMOVABLE TOP, HARD, STANDARD PROCEDURE
.
- Verify the freedom panel center seal is not damaged and in the proper location. The seal end molds will appear rotated if the seal is too far forward or rearward.
- Check for missing, damaged, or off location foam, Refer to REMOVABLE TOP, HARD, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
HARDTOP FRONT SEAL CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Check alignment of hard top header seal to center seal of freedom panel. Verify the seal is not pinched between the freedom tops.
- Verify the center seal is flat against the header seal.
HEADER SEAL CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Verify header seal (1) is positioned evenly side to side (2).
- Using black RTV (2), seal the front edge of the header seal (1) to the windshield frame.NOTE:
The RTV needs to be smoothed down so that it does not pucker and push against the header seal, needs to be applied consistently across the entire frame top and smoothed with a finger. Make sure that no RTV gets onto the exterior painted surface.
- Verify the header seal is fully seated in the windshield frame and foam (1) is not visible between frame and seal. If visible, pull end of header seal forward.
1. Left hand spear foam 2. Right hand spear foam 3. 30 mm (1.2 in.) 4. 85 mm (3.4 in.) 5. 15 mm (0.6 in.) 6. 140 mm (5.5 in.) 7. 10 mm (0.4 in.) - Windshield Header Foam/Butyl Replacement (change to spear foam):
- Replaces usage of L-Foam, Butyl Chicklet, and Razer foam
- Improves manufacturability, water sealing, and wind noise capabilities
- 4 mm Ebony ESL 600 material
- Butyl backing (adhesive)
- LH and RH mirrored parts
- Using a small punch (2) or equivalent, remove the seal rivets and lift the end of the seal out of the way.
- Remove L shaped foam (1), butyl patch (2) and lower razor foam (3) and clean all surfaces fully prior to installation of the new spear foam.
- Begin installation by placing the spear foam onto the windshield frame.
- Start at the tip of the foam (1).
- Place tip into radius of windshield frame (1) as shown in illustration.
- Foam corner (3) sits parallel with windshield header bathtub (4).
- Seat the remaining foam around the header of the windshield frame maintaining a tight even gap to the forward edge of the frame (1).
- Verify the foam is fully seated to windshield frame along the radius to avoid pocketing under the foam (2) that can allow water to pass.
- Verify the header seal (1) is positioned evenly side to side (2).
- Verify the header seal is fully seated in the windshield frame and foam (1) is not visible between frame and seal. If visible, pull end of header seal forward.
- Install the new rivets (2).NOTE:
A slight bit of the spear foam should protrude from the lower feathered edge of the seal (1) when properly installed.
WINDSHIELD CORRECTIONS
Refer to WIND NOISE CONDITION INDEX .
- Check windshield urethane (1) for voids or gaps using soap and air.
- Verify the windshield (1) is positioned correctly and centered in the windshield frame.
- Check windshield frame panel seam sealer (1) using shop air and soap test. Using a paintable repair sealer Part No. 04318026AB or equivalent, repair as needed.
- Verify the windshield sits under flush to the windshield frame. Check glass under flush to frame with a straight edge.
- Verify the lace molding is contacting the windshield frame surround (1) and is centered in frame.
- With windshield lowered, check for open holes at bottom of frame, near drain tube grommet. Install butyl patches.
