Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR DTC TO RETURN 
    1. With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
    2. With the scan tool, run a vehicle Scan Report, or record the Environmental Data related to the DTCs.
    3. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Using the recorded Environmental Data and the When Monitored Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    7. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

    Did the DTC return?

    Yes 

    • Go To  2

    No 

  2. VERIFY COMMUNICATION WITH BCM 
    1. With the scan tool, read the active modules on the bus.

      Does the scan tool show the BCM active on the bus?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

  3. CHECK BCM FOR ACTIVE DTCS 
    1. With the scan tool, erase BCM DTCs.
    2. Turn the ignition off. Wait approximately ten seconds.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, read BCM DTCs and record on the repair order.

      Are any active DTCs present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE VEHICLE CONFIGURATION INFORMATION WITH SCAN TOOL 
    1. With the scan tool run an Vehicle Configuration Report, read the Original and Current VINs, and the Body Style of the vehicle.

      Does the information displayed match the vehicle?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. PERFORM A RESTORE VEHICLE CONFIGURATION 
    1. With the scan tool, perform the Restore Vehicle Configuration procedure.
    2. Turn the ignition off, then back on.
    3. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Body Control Module (BCM) in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals and correct pin tension. If no problems are found, test complete.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
