REMOVAL

NOTE:

The valve body can be removed for service without having to remove the transmission assembly. The valve body can be disassembled for cleaning and inspection of the individual components.

1 - DRAIN PLUG

Shift transmission into PARK.
Raise vehicle.
Position drain pan under transmission oil pan.
Remove transmission oil pan drain plug (1) and drain oil.

Remove transmission oil pan.
Remove the transmission filter.

Disconnect electrical harness connectors from valve body solenoids and position harness aside.

1 - 32.2 mm HEX BOLT

2- 43 mm HEX BOLT

3- 77.5 mm HEX BOLT

4- 42.5 mm HEX BOLT

7- 16 mm HEX BOLT

Remove all the bolts, clamp, wave washer, manual detent spring and cover, attaching the valve body to the transmission case.

Remove the valve body on a slight angle to clear the manual valve shaft (2) from the roostercomb (1).

CAUTION:
Do not remove the valve body electrical harnesses from the transmission case unless replacement is required. Failure to follow these instructions may create an external transmission fluid leak path.
Remove the bolts (3) securing the valve body electrical harness connectors to the transmission case.

Remove both valve body electrical harnesses (1) from the transmission case.

INSTALLATION

NOTE:

If the valve body is being replaced, a quick learn must be performed using the scan tool. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .

NOTE:

Apply petroleum grease to all slide portions, rolling contacts surfaces, thrust surfaces etc. to prevent burnout during initial operation. Lubricate O-rings and O-ring seals with MOPAR® ASRC ATF. Soak all friction disks in MOPAR® ASRC ATF for at least two hours before assembly of clutch packs.

Lubricate the seals on the electrical connectors with MOPAR® ASRC ATF and install the valve body electrical harnesses (1) into the transmission case.

Install the valve body electrical harness connector bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 in.lbs.).
NOTE:
Bolts with conical washers are not reusable.

Install valve body on a slight angle and verify that the shaft on the manual shift valve (2) and the roller detent spring (3) has properly engaged the manual valve lever.

* = temporary hand tighten bolts.

Install the valve body onto the transmission case.
Install and then tighten the bolts in the following order:
1. Install bolts 2* and tighten by hand in order to hold valve body onto transmission case.
2. Install detent cover (6) and spring (5) and bolts (2), (7) and tighten by hand.
3. Install bolts (1), (2), (3) and (4) on each correct position and tighten by hand.
4. Tighten bolts 2* to 10 N.m (88 in.lbs.).
5. Tighten bolts (2), (3), (7), to 10 N.m (88 in.lbs.).
6. Verify all bolts are torqued to specification.

Connect the brown/red wire onto the Linear Solenoid number 5 (4).
Connect the light green/yellow wire onto the Linear Solenoid 4 (5).
Connect the sky blue/green wire onto the Linear Solenoid 3 (6).
Connect the yellow/white wire to the Linear Solenoid 1 (7).
Connect the brown/red wire to the Linear Solenoid 2 (8).
Connect the black/blue wire to the On/Off solenoid (9).
Connect the blue/gray wire to the Linear Solenoid SLU (10).
Connect the purple/black wire to the Linear Solenoid SLT (1).
Secure the valve body solenoid harness at clamps.

Connect the input speed sensor connector (2).
Lubricate the oil temperature sensor with ASRC trans fluid and install the oil temperature sensor in the valve body (11).
NOTE:
The oil temperature sensor harness hold down clamp uses a 16mm bolt. Torque to 10 N.m (88 in. lbs.).
Install the oil pressure switch in the valve body (3).

Secure the oil pressure switch harness that is protected with clamps.

3 - 19.8 MILLIMETER FLANGE BOLTS

Lubricate transmission oil filter o-ring with MOPAR® ASRC ATF.
Install the transmission oil filter (2) into the valve body (1).
Install the bolts (3) and tighten to 10 N.m (88 in.lbs.).

1 - PICK-UP MAGNETS

2 - MAGNETIC DRAIN PLUG

NOTE:
Before installing the transmission oil pan be certain to inspect and clean the pick-up magnets (1) as well as the magnetic drain plug bolt (2).
Using a new gasket install the oil pan onto the transmission case.
Tighten oil pan bolts to 7 N.m (62 in.lbs.).

1 - DRAIN PLUG
Install oil pan drain plug bolt (1).
Tighten oil pan drain plug to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.) torque.
Lower vehicle and fill transmission with MOPAR® ASRC ATF.
Check and adjust gearshift cable, if necessary.
