Removal And Installation

REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
  3. A 1/2 inch square hole is provided in the automatic belt tensioner (9). Attach a suitable tool into this hole.
  4. Rotate tensioner assembly clockwise (as viewed from front) until tension has been relieved from belt.
  5. Remove the serpentine belt from water pump pulley first.

  6. Remove the bolt (2) and the belt tensioner (1).
  7. Remove the serpentine belt from engine.

6 - P/S PULLEY
2 - WATER PUMP
7 - CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
3 - IDLER PULLEY
8 - A/C COMPRESSOR PULLEY
4 - RADIATOR FAN PULLEY
9 - ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT TENSIONER
5 - GENERATOR
10 - ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT
CAUTION:

When installing the accessory drive belt, the belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction.

  1. Install the serpentine belt over all pulleys except  water pump pulley.

  2. Align the dowel to hole and install the belt tensioner (1) in place with the serpentine belt and tighten the bolt (2) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Attach a suitable tool to the belt tensioner.
  4. Rotate belt tensioner clockwise and install the serpentine belt over water pump pulley. Let the tensioner rotate back into place and remove the tool. Be sure belt is properly seated on all pulleys.
  5. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 6.7L .
  6. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
