Removal And Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 RAM 3500 HD and 2019 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

REMOVAL 

WARNING:

On vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, seat belt tensioner, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and personal or fatal injury.

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the steering column as necessary. Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  3. If equipped, remove the manual park release lever. Refer to LEVER, MANUAL PARK RELEASE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connectors (1, 2, 3) located under the left side of the instrument panel.
  5. Remove the left cowl side trim panel. Refer to PANEL, COWL TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Using a trim stick or equivalent, remove the left instrument panel side cover.
  7. Remove the left A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, WITH GRAB HANDLE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  8. Disconnect the headliner wire harness connector (1), release the push pin located at the A-pillar, and position the harness aside.

  9. Remove the three bolts (1) and one screw (2) that secure the left side of the instrument panel to the dash panel.
  10. Remove the floor console, if equipped. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

    NOTE:

  11. Remove the center support bolts (1) that secure the instrument panel to the center of the floor panel.
  12. Using a trim stick or equivalent, from the notch on the bottom, remove the right instrument panel side cover from the instrument panel.
  13. Remove the right A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, WITH GRAB HANDLE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  14. Remove the right cowl trim cover. Refer to PANEL, COWL TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  15. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector (3) located on the right side of the cowl panel.
  16. Disconnect the antenna coaxial cable connectors (1) (2) located on the right side of the cowl panel.

  17. Remove the two bolts (1) and one screw that secure the right side instrument panel bracket to the dash panel.

  18. Using a trim stick or equivalent, remove the defroster grill.
  19. Remove fence line bolts (1).
  20. Remove the cowl panel cover. Refer to COVER, COWL PANEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  21. Remove the instrument panel bolts (1) from the bulkhead.

  22. Pull carpet back as necessary to remove the ground eyelet (2) fastener at Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) Module.
  23. Disconnect the wire harness connector (3) and the ORC Module wire harness connector (1). Remove the wiring from under the carpet.
  24. With the help of an assistant, lift the instrument panel up and off of the cowl panel and remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION 

  1. With the help of an assistant, position the instrument panel in the vehicle and install the right side guide pin and the left side guide hook to the sides of the cowl panel.

  2. Position the wiring harness under the carpet. Connect the ORC Module wire harness connector (1) and the wire harness connector (3).
  3. Install and securely tighten the ground eyelet fastener (2) at ORC Module and position the carpet back as necessary.

  4. Install the fence line bolts (1) on top of IP and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install the defroster grill.

  6. Install the instrument panel bolts (1) in the bulkhead and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Install the cowl panel cover. Refer to COVER, COWL PANEL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  8. Install one screw (2) to the instrument panel and tighten securely. Install the two bolts (1) that secure the right side instrument panel bracket and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  9. Connect the coaxial cable connectors (1) (2) located on the right side of the cowl panel.
  10. Connect the instrument panel wire harness connector (3) located on the right side of the cowl panel.
  11. Install the right cowl trim panel. Refer to PANEL, COWL TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Install the right instrument panel side cover.
  13. Install the right A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, WITH GRAB HANDLE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  14. Install the center support bolts (1) that secure the instrument panel to the center of the floor panel and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  15. Install the floor console, if equipped. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  16. Install the one screw to the Instrument panel and tighten securely. Install the three bolts (1) that secure the left side of the instrument panel to the dash panel and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  17. Connect the headliner wire harness connector (1) located at the A-pillar and secure the harness push pin fully.
  18. Install the left instrument panel side cover fully engaging the retainer clips.
  19. Install the left A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, WITH GRAB HANDLE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  20. Connect the wire harness connectors (1, 2, 3) located under left side of instrument panel.
  21. If equipped, install the manual park release lever. Refer to LEVER, MANUAL PARK RELEASE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  22. Install the steering column as necessary. Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  23. Install the left cowl trim panel. Refer to PANEL, COWL TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  24. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
