Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
- Check the transmission fluid level in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE

Is the Transmission fluid at the proper level?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the Transmission for leaks and return Transmission Fluid to the proper level.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
- Check the transmission fluid level in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE

- CHECK THE INPUT AND OUT SPEED SENSOR SIGNALS
- With an oscilloscope, check the input and output speed sensors for proper operation.
Are the Input and Output Speed Sensors operating properly?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the condition causing the Speed Sensor(s) to malfunction in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
- With an oscilloscope, check the input and output speed sensors for proper operation.
- CHECK THE CLUTCHES, SOLENOIDS, AND VALVES FOR PROPER OPERATION
- Using the clutch application chart, inspect the clutches, valve body solenoids, and valves associated with this gear ratio error. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING

Are the Clutches, Solenoids, and Valves operating properly?
Yes
- Replace the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
No
- Repair the Clutches, Solenoids, or Valves in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST - 948TE 9HP48 .
- Using the clutch application chart, inspect the clutches, valve body solenoids, and valves associated with this gear ratio error. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
