Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, generate and record the Vehicle Scan Report.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off.
    5. Wait for 10 seconds.
    6. Turn the ignition on and start the engine.
    7. Wait for the engine to reach its normal temperature operation.
    8. Drive the vehicle in different operation conditions.
    9. With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go to  2

      No 

      • The conditions that originally set this DTC are not present in the moment. Refer to the Wiring Information and check all related connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, bent or spaced connectors and proper pin voltage. If no problem is found, the test is complete. Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
  2. CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL 
    1. Check the transmission fluid level in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
    2. Check for transmission fluid leak.
    3. Check for transmission fluid contamination.

      Is there any problem?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to  3
  3. CHECK THE TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS 
    1. Check the temperature sensors.
    2. Check the valve body and other component failures that may cause transmission overheating.

      Is there any problem?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go to  4
  4. CHECK TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all Transmission Control Module (TCM) harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connectors (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect all related systems harness connectors.
    4. Check the harness and components connectors and the male female terminals for the following conditions
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Apparently damaged connectors lock.
      • Corrosion.
      • Water contact signs.
      • If the weatherproof protection is damaged (If equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to poor connection (terminal should be colorless due to overheat).
      • Terminals that have been damaged due to being pushed.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
    5. Repair any damage found in step 4.
    6. Reconnect all Transmission Control Module (TCM) harness connectors. Make sure all the connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all the in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Make sure all the connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. Reconnect all the harness related connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully seated.
    9. With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
    10. Operate the vehicle in the conditions that set this DTC.
    11. With the scan tool, read the Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No 

      • TEST COMPLETE.
