Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jeep Renegade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The purpose of this DTC is to detect if Dog Clutch A is engaging during interlocked downshifts. An interlocked downshift involves both the Dog Clutch A and F, such as shifting from Ninth or Eighth gear to Fourth or Third gear.

The actual position of either Dog Clutch A or F is calculated based upon the pressure variation resulting from the dog clutch actuation. This pressure is measured by a pressure sensor. An incorrect dog clutch position is detected if the actual position does not correspond to the commanded position for greater than a calibrated amount of time

This DTC indicates a hydraulic or mechanical failure.
