Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    3. Test drive the vehicle in Start/Stop mode. Make several complete stops, and Auto-Restart attempts.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.

      Is the DTC active or pending?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE FUSES, BATTERY CABLES AND STARTER CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect the Fuses, Battery Cables, Posts and Starter Motor connections for signs of corrosion or a poor connection.

      Were the Fuses, Battery Cables and Starter connections in good condition?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the Battery or Starter connections in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION 
    1. Use the (special tool #GR8-1220KIT-CHRY, AGM Battery Tester/Charger Station) or equivalent to load test the Battery.
    2. Using the Midtronics Battery Charger/Tester, check the condition of the Battery.

      Did the Battery pass the test?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

  4. CHECK THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR PROPER OPERATION 
    1. Perform the CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM diagnostic procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM (HARD START) .

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Repair the Fuel Delivery System in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK THE ENGINE MECHANICAL CONDITION 
    1. Perform the CHECKING THE ENGINE MECHANICAL CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to CHECKING THE ENGINE MECHANICAL SYSTEM .
      NOTE:

      Anything that can cause an intermittent no start condition can cause this DTC to set.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      • Repair the Engine mechanical condition in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Replace the Starter Motor in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
