Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Perform any Service Bulletins that may apply.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs and record on the repair order.
    4. Cycle the ignition from off to on.
    5. Press and hold the brake pedal.
    6. Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
    7. Pull the EPB Switch up to set the Electric Parking Brakes.
    8. Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
    9. Release the brake pedal.
    10. Cycle the ignition from off to on.
    11. With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • The conditions that caused this code to set are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  2. CHECK ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) SWITCH CONNECTOR/TERMINAL FOR DAMAGE 
    NOTE:

    Check all terminals for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals.

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect the EPB Switch for proper mounting.
    3. Inspect the EPB Switch for correct mechanical operation.
    4. Inspect the EPB Switch harness and connector.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. (B60) EPB SWITCH POSITION 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
    2. Disconnect the EPB Switch harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage of the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. (B67) EPB SWITCH POSITION 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. (B68) EPB SWITCH POSITION 3 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  6
  6. (B69) EPB SWITCH POSITION 4 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  7
  7. (B70) EPB SWITCH POSITION 5 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  8
  8. (B71) EPB SWITCH POSITION 6 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Measure the voltage of the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit at the Parking Brake Switch harness connector harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  9
  9. (B60) EPB SWITCH POSITION 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Measure the resistance between ground and the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  10
  10. (B67) EPB SWITCH POSITION 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  11
  11. (B68) EPB SWITCH POSITION 3 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  12
  12. (B69) EPB SWITCH POSITION 4 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  13
  13. (B70) EPB SWITCH POSITION 5 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  14
  14. (B71) EPB SWITCH POSITION 6 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND 
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  15
  15. (B60) EPB SWITCH POSITION 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  16

      No 

      • Repair the (B60) EPB Switch Position 1 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  16. (B67) EPB SWITCH POSITION 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  17

      No 

      • Repair the (B67) EPB Switch Position 2 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  17. (B68) EPB SWITCH POSITION 3 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  18

      No 

      • Repair the (B68) EPB Switch Position 3 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  18. (B69) EPB SWITCH POSITION 4 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  19

      No 

      • Repair the (B69) EPB Switch Position 4 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  19. (B70) EPB SWITCH POSITION 5 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  20

      No 

      • Repair the (B70) EPB Switch Position 5 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  20. (B71) EPB SWITCH POSITION 6 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit between the Parking Brake Switch harness connector and the EPB Module harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  21

      No 

      • Repair the (B71) EPB Switch Position 6 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
  21. ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) SWITCH 
    1. Replace the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) Switch.
    2. Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ABS VERIFICATION TEST .
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.
    5. Cycle the ignition from off to on.
    6. Press and hold the brake pedal.
    7. Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
    8. Pull the EPB Switch up to set the Electric Parking Brakes.
    9. Push the EPB Switch down to release the Electric Parking Brakes.
    10. Release the brake pedal.
    11. Cycle the ignition from off to on.
    12. With the scan tool, read ABS DTCs.

      Does the DTC remain active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  22

      No 

      • Test complete.
  22. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Connect the ABS Module harness connector. Be certain that the harness connector is fully seated and the connector lock is fully engaged.
    6. Connect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Connect the related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read ABS Module DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
