Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    If any voltage Stability Module 2 DTCs are present in the Body Control Module, diagnose and repair those DTCs before continuing with this test procedure.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    3. Cycle the ignition on and off several times, leaving the ignition on for at least 20 seconds during each ignition cycle.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.

      Is the DTC active or pending?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK FOR ANY ADD ON COMPONENTS TO THE VEHICLE 
    1. Inspect the vehicle for any aftermarket equipment (I.E. Radio's, Amps, etc.) that may be drawing excessive current from the VSM 2.

      Is there evidence of any aftermarket components on the vehicle?

      Yes 

      • Remove the aftermarket components that are connected to the VSM 2 circuit and recheck to see if the DTC is active. If DTC is still active, replace the VSM 2 in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Replace the appropriate voltage Stability Module (VSM) 2 in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
