Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read ESM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read ESM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Using the schematics as a guide, check the Electronic Shifter Module (ESM) terminals and connectors for corrosion, damage or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace the ESM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRONIC SHIFT (ESM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the ESM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE (ESM) VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 2
- CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS
- The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
- Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
- Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
- Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were there any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the ESM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE (ESM) VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Test complete.
