- CHECK THE (K18) COIL CONTROL 3 CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.CAUTION:
Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis.
- Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic).
- Measure the resistance of the (K18) Coil Control 3 circuit from the Ignition Coil harness connector to the GPEC Adaptor.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Repair the (K18) Coil Control 3 circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- VERIFY THE IGNITION COIL DID NOT CAUSE THE PCM DRIVER FAILURE NOTE:
An internally shorted or damaged Ignition Coil can cause an internal PCM coil driver failure. Do not replace the PCM without first determining if the ignition coil is the cause of the failure.
- Remove the Ignition Coil that is controlled by the coil driver setting the DTC.
- Install the ignition coil in another coil location that did not have a DTC set against it.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Start and run the engine for up to one minute.NOTE:
If the engine will not start, crank the engine three times for 10 seconds.
- With a scan tool, read DTCs.
Did a correlating fault set for the new coil location?
Yes
