Theory Of Operation
The Rear View Camera (RVC) receives battery current from a run relay located within the rear Power Distribution Center (PDC) through a fused ignition (RUN) circuit. The RVC has a path to ground at all times through a takeout and eyelet terminal of the body wire harness secured to the body sheet metal. The RVC and backup (or reverse) lamps are activated when the status of the ignition is ON/RUN and the BCM has received an electronic message by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) over the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus indicating the status of the transmission gear selector is REVERSE. If the camera delay feature is enabled the RVC will remain active for 10 seconds, up to about 13 km/h (8 mph) or until the touch screen display is pressed after the gear selector is shifted from Reverse (R) to Neutral (N) or Drive (D).
The RVC sends a video signal (std. NTSC i.e. TV) to the Radio screen for display using signal, return, and shield circuits. The screen will toggle functions displaying only one kind of image at a time; and in reverse, the RVC has priority.
The Local Interface Network (LIN) slave node of the RVC microcontroller communicates using electronic messaging over the LIN data bus with the LIN master node of the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM continually monitors the condition of the LIN data bus and the RVC. The BCM will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for any fault that is detected.
