Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the DTC Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase IPC DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read IPC DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE (D403) LIN BUS CIRCUIT
- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
Due to different vehicle configurations, each module listed below may not be equipped on the vehicle. The purpose of this test is to identify a module that may be causing this DTC to set. Various other DTCs may set during this diagnostic test, disregard any others that may set.
- Disconnect one a time the following modules with the ignition off. It will be necessary to cycle the ignition off to on between each disconnection.
- With the scan tool, monitor the DTC to change from active to stored between each disconnection.
- Disconnect the Electronic Overhead Module harness connector.
- Disconnect the Humidity Sensor harness connector.
- Disconnect the Compass Module harness connector.
Did the DTC change from Active to Stored after disconnecting any module?
Yes
- Replace the module that caused the DTC to change from Active to Stored in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- Turn the ignition off.
- CHECK THE (D403) LIN BUS CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
All available modules should still be disconnected.
- Disconnect the IPC harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (D403) LIN Bus circuit at the IPC harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (D403) LIN Bus circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (D403) LIN Bus circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Turn the ignition off.
- CHECK THE (D403) LIN BUS CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Check the resistance of the (D403) LIN Bus circuit between IPC harness connector and each available module harness connector.
Is the resistance below 1.0 Ohm for each available module?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (D403) LIN Bus circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Check the resistance of the (D403) LIN Bus circuit between IPC harness connector and each available module harness connector.
- CHECK THE (D403) LIN BUS CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (D403) LIN Bus circuit at the IPC harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (D403) LIN Bus circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect all IPC harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all IPC harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read IPC DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
