Initial Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jeep Renegade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the left A-pillar trim panel. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVAL .

  4. Clean the contact surface where the T-Box module will be fixed (1) using isopropyl alcohol, heptane or an equivalent degreaser.

  5. Make note or take a photo of the data (1) on the label the T-Box. It is required for the final test procedure at the end of the installation.

  6. Apply a strip of biadhesive Velcro (1) to the back of the T-Box module.

  7. Apply the Coroplast covering tape (1) to the parts of the T-Box module in contact with the vehicle to prevent vibration noise when it is mounted on the vehicle.

  8. Inspect the wiring pigtail of the T-Box and apply Coroplast tape as needed (2) to protect the wiring at the connector.

  9. Apply a strip of biadhesive Velcro to the dashboard's internal bracket (1).

  10. Apply Coroplast tape to the inner edges of the bracket (1)

  11. Install the T-Box module (1a) on the bracket and secure it with the ties (1b) provided.

  12. Install the T-Box module relay mounting cradle (1a) on the bottom hole in the dashboard mounting bracket and secure it with the screw (1b) with nut and two washers supplied.
  13. Install the relay holder (2) with the T-Box relay on the cradle fitted earlier and connect it to the T-Box harness.

  14. Remove the nut (1a) on the ground stud of the front pillar area and open the cable retainers.
    NOTE:

    If there are any cables already connected to this ground stud, take care to fit the T-Box harness ground ring in such a way that it is at 90° to the previous ones (1b).

  15. Install the ground ring (1b) of the T-Box harness onto the ground stud on top of the cables already present and tighten the nut (1a) securely.

  16. Cut and move aside the sheathing of the vehicle wiring.
    NOTE:

    Take great care not to get the cables to be joined dirty as this will adversely affect the continuity of the electrical conduction. While heating the thermal shrinking tubs, as a result of the high temperatures reached, the drier and the heat shield must not, under any circumstances, come into contact with cladding parts or other components.

  17. Find the ignition block cable (+50 - red/green cable cross-section 2.5 mm) within the front wiring, cut it and fit the thermal shrinking connection tubes (1) onto the two sets of cables within the wiring.
    NOTE:

    The air heater (drier) used in this procedure is commercially available.

  18. Use an air heater (2a) with heat shield (2b) to heat the thermal shrinking tubes (2c) until the ring of solder melts; then wait for it to cool.
    NOTE:

    Apply insulating tape to the two wires individually and then combine the wires with the main wiring and tape again to create a more compact bundle.

    NOTE:

    Fuse F36 is the third from the top (blue) in the right- hand row in the Body Computer.

  19. Remove fuse F36 (+30) (1) from the Body computer and fit it into the turret fuse-holder of the T-Box harness.

  20. Connect the connector of the new T-Box harness (with twin fuse) (1) in the position previously occupied by fuse F36 of the Body Computer.
    NOTE:

    Fuse F51 is the third from the top (red) in the left-hand row in the Body Computer.

  21. Remove fuse F51 (+15) from the Body computer and fit it into the turret fuse-holder of the T-Box harness.
  22. Connect the wire harness connector of the T-Box harness (with twin fuse) (1) in the position previously occupied by fuse F51 of the Body Computer.
    NOTE:

    When done, restore the connector wiring with a new tie.

  23. Disconnect the Body Computer's D connector (1) and remove the block which covers the internal connections.
  24. Connect the two cables CAN L (pin 23) and CAN H (pin 22) of the T-Box harness (2) to the position corresponding to pins 52 (CAN L) and 51 (CAN H) respectively and replace the block which covers the internal connections of the Body Computer D connector.
    NOTE:

    When done, restore the connector wiring with a new tie.

  25. Disconnect the Body Computer's F connector (1) and remove the block which covers the internal connections.
  26. Connect the door opening signal cable (green) of the new T-Box harness to the pin 11 position and replace the internal connection cover block of the Body Computer F connector.

    NOTE:

    Tape should be applied to the bundle of cables (1) to increase its compactness (2).

  27. Install the wiring together with the other cables and fasten the cable retainers.
  28. Gather all T-Box wiring (1a) and secure it all together in an orderly manner (1b) using the T-Box retainer tie (1c) as a location to help secure the wiring.
    NOTE:

    Position the T-Box wiring as far as possible from metal body parts with sharp edges and points where trim components will be fastened where they previously were removed for the T-Box installation. Verify that the wiring is not oriented in front of the glove compartment latch.

  29. Tie the wiring and secure the T-Box harness to the vehicle wiring.
  30. Install the glove compartment. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .
  31. Install the left A-pillar trim panel. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, INSTALLATION .
  32. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
  33. On completion of installation of the T-Box module, connect the scan tool to the car's EOBD socket, locate the BCM module and check for errors.
