WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jeep Renegade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Before disassembling the transmission, measure the end play of the input shaft. This will aid in the assembly process when selecting a select shim.
- Place the transmission on a suitable clean work surface.
- Remove the torque converter.
- Use tools (special tool #8266B, End Play Socket Set) and (special tool #C-3339A, Set, Dial Indicator) attached to the input shaft, to measure the input shaft end play.
- Attach the dial indicator (1) to the handle 8266-8 (4).
- Attach the handle (4) to the spline adapter 8266-6 (2).
- Attach the spline adapter (2) to the input shaft.
- Position the dial indicator plunger on the bellhousing rim.
- Pull outward on the handle (4) and zero the dial indicator face (1).
- Push inward on the handle and read the dial indicator (1).
- Record the measurement as a reference number for selecting the proper thickness select spacer when assembling the transmission.
