AWD And 4WD Right Side: Removal

NOTE:

The 948TE/9HP48 automatic transmission configured for All Wheel Drive (AWD) utilizes an adapter sleeve (1) to couple the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) to the differential. Lip seals are used to seal the inner and outer surfaces of the adapter sleeve.

Remove the PTU from the vehicle. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

Using tool (special tool #7794-A, Remover, Seal) and (special tool #C-637, Slide Hammer, Universal), remove the adapter sleeve from the transmission.

Using tool (special tool #9667, Remover, Seal) (2) and (special tool #C-3752, Slide Hammers) (1), remove the seal (3) from the transmission.

Position the adapter sleeve (1) on the work surface with the seal (2) tension spring side down.

Insert tool (special tool #9676, Adapter Plug) (1) into PTU side of the adapter sleeve (2).

Using a suitable hammer (1) and the adapter plug (2), drive the seal from the inside of the adapter sleeve (3).
