Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Set the parking brake.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Remove the shifter cable adjustment clip (1) from the shift cable.

  5. Remove the shifter cable retention clip (2) from the gear shifter.

  6. Detach the shifter cable end (1) from the transmission manual lever.

  7. Detach the shifter cable (1) from the transmission shifter cable bracket.

  8. Detach the shifter cable (1) from the clip.
  9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  10. Remove the rear exhaust muffler. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 1.3L or MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 2.4L .

  11. Remove the exhaust heat shield (1).
  12. Remove the nuts for the shifter cable grommet and plate assembly.
  13. Pull the shifter cable and plate assembly through the opening in the floor pan.
  14. Remove the shifter cable from the vehicle.
