Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jeep Renegade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

To aid with vehicle stabilization and braking the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Module for indicators of what mode of operation the ABS Module is currently in. The PCM receives ABS Sensor signals in raw data bussed from the ABS Module. These are Controlled Area Network (CAN) signals which include sensor data that is that is a direct input to the ABS Module. The PCM is required to diagnose these raw signals and set DTCs for any failures.
