Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.
When replacing multiple A/C system components, refer to the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
Replacement of the O-ring seals is required anytime a refrigerant line or expansion valve is disconnected. Failure to replace the rubber O-ring seals may result in a refrigerant system leak.
Replace the connector O-ring. Only use seal washers with an elastomeric part in HNBR, resistant to refrigerant R1234YF. The use of seal washers with another elastomeric material may increase the risk of serious leaks of refrigerant from the air conditioning system.
Lubricate NEW O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and install them onto the refrigerant line fittings. Use only the specified O-ring seals as they are made of a special material for the system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the vehicle.
- Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and the evaporator and expansion valve ports.
- Check that the plate (2a) is in the correct position up against the flanges (2b) of the tubes (1a).
- Install the A/C expansion valve (1a) onto the A/C evaporator.
- Install one A/C expansion valve to the A/C evaporator screws into the hole (1c).
- Remove the threaded rod (1b).
- Install the other A/C expansion valve to the A/C evaporator screw (1c) and tighten both screws (1a and 1c) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.CAUTION:
Use care when installing the A/C lines to the A/C expansion valve. Carefully align the tube ends with the valve prior to tightening the A/C line retaining nut or damage to the sealing rings and tube ends may occur.
- Position the line (1b) on the expansion valve (1a) and tighten the nut (1c) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to R-1234YF REFRIGERANT SYSTEM CHARGE .
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 1.3L or BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 2.4L .
- Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 1.3L or COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 2.4L .
- Check the system for leaks.NOTE:
Electronic leak detector specifications:
- Sensitivity: < 7 g/y
- Measurement sensor technology: E_MOSTM
- Leak detection less than 3 grams/year
- Measurement probe: length 380 mm, diameter 6.4 mm
- Detects all CFC-HCFC-HFC-HFO refrigerant gases, also including hydrogen-ammonia-isobutane-propanebutane-LPG-acetone-benzene-ethanol
- Sensor duration: > 500 hours
- Start the engine and allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Start the air conditioning and check for R1234yf refrigerant leaks, proceeding as described below with the following equipment (1a).
- Remove the front floor console side panels (1b).
- Close all the vents leaving open only the central vent (1a) of the dashboard.NOTE:
Set the airflow distribution towards the open vent in "recirculation" mode and at "minimum" fan speed.
- Position the sensor of the electronic leak detector in the central vent (1a) left open and check for leaks.
- Place the electronic leak detector probe in the area of the evaporator (on the right side of the air conditioner box) (3) and check for leaks.NOTE:
Turn the compressor "OFF" and repeat all the leak tests.
