2.4L With Automatic Transmission - AWD: Removal

CAUTION:
If the original engine has experienced a catastrophic failure or an individual failure with the piston, cylinder bore, engine block, valve or valve seat, the intake manifold MUST be replaced with a new manifold.
NOTE:
The oil cooler can not be cleaned out. In the event that the engine requires rebuilding or replacement, replace the oil cooler. Refer to COOLER, OIL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove fuse F21 from the Power Distribution Center (PDC).
- Start and run the engine until it stalls from fuel starvation.
- Return fuse F21 to the PDC.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the hood. Refer to HOOD, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to R-1234YF REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY .
- Remove the engine cover and clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the battery and battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the front belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the right front wheel splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Drain the cooling system
- Remove the left and right halfshafts. Refer to FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
and REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

- Disconnect the quick coupling (1) and remove the coolant hose from the pressurized coolant bottle.
- Loosen the clamp (2) and remove the degas hose, disengage the retaining clips and remove the pressurized coolant bottle.
- Remove the front fascia. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the left front head lamp. Refer to UNIT, FRONT LAMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the right front head lamp. Refer to UNIT, FRONT LAMP, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the headlamp mounting crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, HEADLAMP MOUNTING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

- Remove the exhaust pipe hanger bolts (1).
- Remove the exhaust pipe hanger bolts (1).
- Remove the exhaust pipe support bracket bolt (2).
- Remove the exhaust flange nuts (3), disconnect the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter and remove the flange gasket.
- Position a suitable hydraulic lift under the powertrain (1).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and (1b) and remove the rear engine mount isolator (1c).NOTE:
The dust cover must be replaced whenever the driveshaft is disconnected.
- Using the hydraulic lift, move the powertrain up and forward as much as permitted by the right and left engine mounts.
- Pull back the dust cover (1).NOTE:
The snap ring must be replaced whenever the driveshaft is disconnected.
NOTE:Tool 2019500030 Retractor (1) is not available for NAFTA. Use commercially available snap ring pliers.
- For NAFTA market, use commercially available snap ring pliers to open the snap ring. For EMEA market, using tool 2019500030 Retractor (1), open the snap ring.
- Pull back the driveshaft to disengage it from the PTU and reposition the shaft on the crossmember.
- Remove the hydraulic lift.
- Remove the bolts (1) and the left side lower load beam.
- Remove the bolts and the right side lower load beam.
- Disconnect the A/C evaporator hose quick coupling (1).
- Disconnect the quick coupling (1) and remove the vacuum hose from the vacuum pump.
- Disconnect the starter cable (1) and generator cable (2) from the power distribution center.
- Disconnect the block heater wire harness connector (3) if equipped.
- Disconnect the heater core hose quick couplings (1).
- Disconnect the fuel supply hose and vapor purge hose quick couplings (1).
- Disconnect the power transfer unit actuator wire harness connector (1).
- Open the wire harness retaining clip (1).
- Rotate the connector lock nut and disconnect the transmission wire harness connector (2).
- Disconnect the engine wire harness connector (1).
- Disconnect the gear selector cable from the gear change lever (1).
- Pull back the lock slider (2) and disengage the gear selector cable from the bracket.
- Open the retaining clip and disconnect the Transmission Control Module (TCM) wire harness connector (1).
- Remove the bolt and reposition the battery ground cable (1).
- Disconnect the upstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector (1a) and remove the bolt (1b) and wire harness bracket.
- Remove the bolts (2) and the exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Install a suitable engine lifting bracket under the exhaust manifold nut (1).
- Remove the nut and the camshaft position sensor heat shield (1).
- Remove the stud bolt and the camshaft position sensor (1).
- Install a suitable engine lifting bracket under the exhaust manifold nut (1).
- Install a suitable engine lifting bracket under the engine timing cover bolt (1).
- Connect a hydraulic crane and an adjustable lift sling (1) to the lifting brackets.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and (1b) and remove the left engine mount isolator (1c).
- Remove the bolts (1a) and (1b) and remove the right engine mount isolator (1c).
- Remove the powertrain from the engine compartment and place it on a suitable platform.
- Remove the hydraulic crane and sling form the lifting brackets.
