The 2.4-liter Tigershark engine is an I4 (inline 4) 16-Valve Multiair with multiport fuel injection and has an actual displacement of 2360 cc (144 cu. in.). Main features of the engine are:
- Aluminum engine block with cast-iron bore liners
- Forged-steel crankshaft
- Two-bolt main bearing caps coupled with a cast-iron structural bearing beam
- Powder forged-steel connecting rods
- Cast-aluminum pistons with full-floating piston pin
- Individual piston oil squirters
- Oil pump / balance shaft module with two-stage oil pressure relief
- Aluminum cylinder head
- Chain driven single overhead camshaft with hydraulic tensioner
- Coil-on-plug ignition
- Sequential, multi-port, electronic, returnless fuel system
- 10.0:1 Compression ratio
- Maximum engine speed of 6300 rpm (electronically limited)
- Unleaded regular fuel Requirement (87 octane)
- GPEC3 engine-management system with wide range (6-wire) oxygen sensor
Multiair technology manages torque and power delivered of the engine by varying the lift profile of the intake valves without direct use of the throttle body. The main features of the Multiair engine are:
- Single camshaft
- Hydraulic exhaust tappets
- Intake tappets integrated in the Multiair actuator
- Brake servo vacuum pump
Compared to a traditional engine, the special characteristics of the Multiair system offer better combustion control and a faster response to torque requests at each cylinder and at every power stroke. This means:
