The Multiair, aluminum cylinder head contains an exhaust camshaft and a Variable Valve Actuator Assembly (VVAA) with four valves per cylinder. The valves are arranged in two in-line banks.
- The cylinder head incorporates pressed in powdered metal valve guides and valve seats. The valve guides and valve seats are not serviceable.
- The exhaust valvetrain uses roller rocker arms with hydraulic lash adjusters.
- The exhaust valves (6) face toward the front of the vehicle.
- The intake valves (5) face the dash panel.
- The valves contain a stem seal (4), spring (3), spring retainer (2) and three groove keepers (1).
- Integral oil galleries provide lubrication passages to the VVAA, camshaft bearings and hydraulic lash adjusters.
- The cylinder head is sealed to the block using a multi-layer steel head gasket and retaining fasteners.
