Bezel, Shifter: Removal
If the PRNDM is disconnected from the shifter on a live vehicle (battery still connected with CAN-C bus activity), there is a possibility that DTC code U114C-00 may be set to an 'Active' or 'Stored' state. After the PRNDM is replaced and the vehicle CAN-C bus has been inactive for a minimum of 30 seconds and an ignition cycle is begun by turning the vehicle into ACC or RUN state, the PRNDM may not illuminate and/or operate for a short period of time while the shifter determines if the PRNDM is present and functional. This could take up to 2 minutes if the software in the PRNDM assembly needs to be updated. After that period of time, the PRNDM will illuminate and function normally if there are no other issues. This is a normal failsafe function of this component."
- Disconnect the battery negative cable.NOTE:
If a plastic trim stick is not used for removal of the gear shifter boot, damage to the plastic can occur. The boot must be pried off at the attachment points as shown in illustration. There is high retention on the boot to the bezel, the boot must be removed from the bezel, DO NOT attempt to pry the chrome trim ring surrounding the boot from the bezel.
- Carefully separate the gear shifter boot (1) from the bezel using (special tool #C-4755, Trim Stick) (2) or equivalent.
- Position the gear shifter boot (1) as shown in illustration, remove the screw (2), then remove the gear shift knob and boot assembly.NOTE:
A trim stick must be used to prevent damage and it must be used to pry the attachment points. To avoid damage to the bezel attachment anchors, the trim stick must be worked around the bezel, DO NOT pry on one side and then pull off the bezel.
- Grab forward edge of bezel with two hands and lift upwards to disengage the forward retaining clips.
- Using trim stick or equivalent, disengage the remaining retaining clips at the selected points and remove the bezel from console.
- If equipped, disconnect the transfer case switch (1) wire harness connector (2).
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) under the cup holder (2).
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (2) from the PRNDM indicator (1), and then remove the gear shifter bezel.
