Description And Operation: Description
The dual pane sunroof system consists of a front sliding glass panel and rear stationary glass panel which allows additional sun light and/or ventilation into the interior of the vehicle. The system also includes a power sunshade which can be closed when additional sun light is not desired.
The dual pane sunroof system allows the sunroof front glass to be opened, closed or placed in the vent position electrically by actuating switches in the overhead console. The sunroof system receives battery feed through a fuse in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and an ignition wire to determine vehicle ignition state. The sunroof will only operate when the ignition is set to ON/Run. The sunroof system does not communicate through Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus Circuit. Therefore, the power sunroof system cannot generate Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's).
The dual pane sunroof system features an express operation (press & release switch) convenience feature that will automatically open or close the sunroof or sunshade. The glass features two programmed stop positions; comfort stop position and full open position. The comfort stop position is approximately 40mm forward of the full open position and has been optimized to minimize wind buffeting in the interior when the vehicle is driven with sunroof open and all side windows closed. In addition the power sunroof system also features an obstacle detection feature which automatically reverses the sunroof or sunshade when it encounters an obstacle within the roof opening during express close operation.
The sunroof glass can be cycled to the following positions:
- Vent Position - The sunroof glass panel tilts upward 1 inch at the rear for the Vent position.
- Comfort Stop Position - The sunroof glass panel slides open approximately 475mm from the closed position.
- Full Open Position - The sunroof glass panel slides open approximately 515mm from the closed position.
- Closed Position - The sunroof glass panel seals flush with the roof in the closed position to eliminate wind noise.
There are two electric motors located on the rear of the dual pane sunroof assembly that operate the sliding glass panel and sunshade. For further information regarding the sunroof motor drive systems, refer to the Power Systems article of this service information for additional information on these components.
The dual pane sunroof glass panels interface with the body roof opening flange with rubber seals to prevent wind noise and minimize water intrusion when the sunroof is closed. The sunroof system features a water management system that collects any water that leaks passed the sunroof seals and drains it safely outside the vehicle through drain hoses connected at all four corners of the sunroof frame.
The sunroof system features a wind deflector that automatically deploys when the sunroof is in a slide open position to help minimize wind buffeting and wind noise. Wind buffeting is a pressure pulse that may be heard or felt when driving with sunroof open and side windows closed.
