The transmission heater is an assembly containing an oil-to-water heat exchanger and a Thermal Bypass Valve (TBV). The coolant flow through the heater is controlled by a solenoid operated coolant shut off valve. The purpose of the transmission heater is to warm the transmission oil in order to get it up to the ideal operating temperature. The transmission oil flows through the cooler manifold where heat exchange from the transmission heater occurs, and then back into the transmission. The transmission oil cooler is bypassed until the transmission oil reaches approximately 82°C (180°F).
