Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR OTHER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) 
    1. With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.

      Are any Gear Ratio or Speed Sensor DTCs set?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK FOR POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) DTCS 
    1. With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.

      Are any PCM DTCs set?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK FOR ENGINE MECHANICAL PROBLEMS 
    1. Determine if any Engine mechanical problems are present.

      Are any Engine mechanical problems present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK FOR TRANSMISSION MECHANICAL PROBLEMS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the Transmission Oil Pan and inspect for excessive debris or a plugged Transmission Oil Filter.

      Is there any debris, plugged Transmission Oil Filter, or signs of an internal Transmission problem?

      Yes 

      • Repair the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    3. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    4. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the TCM connector and all related in-line connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the TCM in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to REMOVAL .
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Test complete.
