Valve Body: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION:

The Transmission Control Module (TCM), or Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) is extremely sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Always use a ground strap and follow the ESD guidelines in ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) SENSITIVE DEVICES. Failure to follow these instructions may result in damage to the TCM/TCMA.

  1. Install the fluid port (1) with NEW  O-rings (2) and seal (3) to the valve body.

  2. Install one of the valve body (special tool #10379, Pins, Valve Body Alignment) (3) in the rear of the transmission as shown in the illustration as a guide.
    NOTE:

    Make sure the speed sensor at the rear of the valve body does get caught between the valve body and the transmission case when positioning the valve body to the case. 

  3. Carefully guide the front of the valve body over the cradle while aligning the rear of the valve body with the alignment pin.

  4. Install the front alignment pin (1).
  5. Use an appropriate tool on one of the alignment pins to assist in holding the valve body in position while installing the remaining fasteners.

  6. Install the valve body assembly retaining bolts not including 16-18 and hand tighten.
  7. Remove the pins and install the remaining bolts.

  8. Using (special tool #10377, Remover/Installer, Guide Sleeve) (1) carefully install the electrical harness insulator (2) to the transmission case (3).

  9. Lock the electrical connector lock (2) to the internal harness end.
  10. Install the rear valve body retaining bolts (1, 2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  11. When installing the OSS into the case, take care to position the OSS guide pin as shown in the illustration or DAMAGE  to the sensor may result. This is the INCORRECT  alignment of the pin.

  13. Install the speed sensor (4) to the case install the retaining bolt (1) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  14. If equipped, install the Hydraulic Impulse Oil Storage (H.I.S.) accumulator (1).
  15. Tighten the bolts (2 and 3) to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  16. Connect the H.I.S. electrical connector.
  17. Install the valve body assembly end retainer bolts (3) and hand tighten.

  18. Tighten the valve body fasteners to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  19. Lower the transmission back onto the crossmember.
  20. Install the rear mount nuts (2) and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  21. Remove the tie strap (3).
  22. Attach the Manual Park Release (MPR) cable (1) to the MPR lever (2).

  23. Install the oil pan and gasket.
  24. Install the thirteen oil pan retaining bolts and tighten the fasteners to the proper torque specifications using the sequence given. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  25. Connect the plug connector (1).

  26. Turn the locking mechanism (1) of the harness plug clockwise and lock in place.
  27. If the valve body is replaced, program the TCM. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
  28. Perform the TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  29. Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
