Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    If the Shifter and the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) is correctly displaying Park (not flashing), this indicates the Transmission Control Module (TCM) is sending a Controller Area Network (CAN) message that the Transmission is in the park position.

    With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.

    1. Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    3. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    4. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Go To  5
  2. CHECK THE (T824) PARK CIRCUIT VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Transmission Assembly harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage on the (T824) Park circuit at the Transmission Assembly harness connector.

      Is the voltage above 10.0 volts?

      Yes 

      • Check the terminals in the Transmission Assembly harness connector for damaged or loose terminals, or terminals that are backed out of the connector.
      • Reconnect the Transmission Assembly harness connector and erase DTCs.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (T824) PARK CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Disconnect the Radio Frequency (RF) Hub C1 harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (T824) Park circuit between the Transmission Assembly harness connector and the RF Hub C1 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the (T824) Park circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK (T824) PARK CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the (T824) Park circuit at the Transmission Assembly harness connector.

      Is there continuity between ground and the (T824) Park circuit?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Radio Frequency (RF) Hub connector and all related in-line connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to power and ground circuits. Check Service Bulletins for possible causes that may apply. If no problems are found, replace the RF Hub in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, RADIO FREQUENCY (RF HUB), REMOVAL .
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS 
    1. The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
    2. Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
    3. Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
    4. Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Test Complete.
