Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.NOTE:
Stop the vehicle and place shiftier into PARK position multiple times during the next step.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
- Check the Transmission fluid level in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE
.
Is the transmission fluid level correct?
Yes
- Replace the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- Check the Transmission fluid level in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE

- REPAIR LEAKS AND CHECK FOR DTCS
- Repair any Transmission fluid leaks and fill Transmission to the proper level. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.NOTE:
Stop the vehicle and place shifter into PARK position multiple times during the next step.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test Complete.
- CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS
- The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
- Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
- Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
- Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK TRANSMISSION FOR FLUID DRAIN BACK AND LOW PRESSURE ON START NOTE:
If no other problems have been found during the course of the diagnostic you should test for a pump porosity or drain back issue, the transmission needs to be at operating Temperature, followed by shut down and soak for 12 hours (This test works best at cold temperatures less than 40 degrees F. After the cold soak, without using remote start.
Start the vehicle and immediately attempt to pull vehicle out of park.
Does the transmission come out of Park and engage forward or reverse immediately?
Yes
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test Complete.
No
- Replace the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
