Diagnostic Test

- CHECK EMERGENCY MANUAL PARK RELEASE (MPR) LEVER FOR OBSTRUCTIONS AND DAMAGE
- Check the MPR Lever for obstructions, binding, and damage.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Remove the obstruction, repair the cause of binding or, if necessary, replace the Emergency MPR Lever in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 2
- Check the MPR Lever for obstructions, binding, and damage.
- CHECK MPR CABLE FOR BINDING AND DAMAGE
- Check MPR cable for binding and damage.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair the binding condition or replace the MPR Cable if necessary in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- Check MPR cable for binding and damage.
- CHECK MPR LINKAGE ON TRANSMISSION FOR BINDING OR DAMAGE
- Check MPR linkage on transmission for obstructions, binding, and damage.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Remove the obstruction, repair the cause of binding or, if necessary, replace the valve body in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Check MPR linkage on transmission for obstructions, binding, and damage.
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
- With the scan tool, read Transmission Control Module (TCM) DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.NOTE:
Stop the vehicle and place shifter into PARK position multiple times during the next step.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Transmission in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS
- The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
- Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
- Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
- Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were there any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
NOTE:The most common cause for this DTC is temporary debris such as rocks that kick up from roadway and lodge themselves between the lever and case or the lever and cable. It is common for the debris to work itself free. Sometimes witness scrapes may be seen on the transmission case that would give a further indication this had happened.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
