Exhaust Manifold - Right Side

- Remove the oil fill cap (1).
- Remove the engine cover (2).
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable (2).CAUTION:
When servicing or replacing exhaust system components, disconnect the oxygen sensor connector(s). Allowing the exhaust to hang by the oxygen sensor wires will damage the harness or sensor.
- Disconnect the right upstream 02 sensor electrical connector (1).
- Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield front retaining nuts.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- If equipped, remove the skid plate (1) four retaining bolts (2) and remove the skid plate.
- Disconnect the right exhaust pipe/catalytic converter. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, REMOVAL .
- Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield rear retaining nuts and remove the heat shield.NOTE:
The bolts used to secure the exhaust manifold are stainless steel at locations 7 and 9. All bolts removed must be installed in the same location were they were removed from.
- Using the sequence shown in the illustration, remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts.NOTE:
The right exhaust manifold is removed from below the engine and out through the rear of the engine compartment.
- Remove the right exhaust manifold and gasket from below the engine and out through the rear of the engine compartment.
- Inspect the exhaust manifold for any damage. Refer to MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSPECTION .
- Clean the mating surfaces.
