Section 13 (3.0L Turbo Diesel (Service Information)): Lubrication: Description
Gerotor type pump, gear driven from crankshaft.
The oil filter/oil cooler housing is mounted on the left side of the engine block.
Oil is circulated from the oil pump through oil/water cooler to the oil filter to the oil gallery feeding the timing chain tensioner, cylinder head, oil jets, crankshaft bearings, rod bearings and the turbocharger. The maximum oil temperature measured in the oil pan under continuous operating conditions should not exceed 135° C (275° F). The oil cooler maintains a maximum oil temperature of 140° C (284° F).
The right cylinder head supplies oil to the timing chain oil jet, cam bearings, vacuum pump, and fuel injection pump.
The left cylinder head supplies oil to the timing chain oil jet, and cam bearings.
Any time the oil is drained and filled it is critical to wait 15 minutes before starting the engine.
Before checking the engine oil level turn the engine off and wait 15 minutes for the oil to return to the oil pan.
