Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR SCR, REDUCTANT, OR NOX DTCS NOTE:
If there are any other SCR, Reductant, or NOx related DTCs present, the Diagnostics must be completed for those DTCs first before continuing with this one. Any Diagnostics and/or repairs done for SCR, Reductant, or NOx related DTCs must be followed by performing the Diagnostic Tree for P2BA9-00 (ending with performing the SCR Healing Procedure-Test Step 7).
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- Using the scan tool, go to Reports, generate a Vehicle Scan Report (VSR), include all information, and send it to the Support Group.
- Using the scan tool, view DTCs.
Are there any SCR, Reductant, or NOx DTCs present?
Yes
- Perform the Diagnostics for the SCR, Reductant, or NOx DTC(s).
- Then, come back and begin the Diagnostic Tree for this DTC (P2BA9-00) again. All Diagnostics and/or repairs must end with the SCR Healing Procedure (P2BA9-00-Test Step 7).
No
- Using the scan tool, erase P2BA9-00.
- Go To 2
- CHECK FOR DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID LEAK
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the DEF Injector (Dosing Valve) Actuator Test.NOTE:
This will pressurize the system, making a leak easier to see.
- Inspect for signs of a Diesel Exhaust Fluid leak at:
- DEF Injector and Injector connectors.
- DEF Heater Line.
- DEF Supply Pump Assembly.
NOTE:Diesel exhaust fluid will form white deposits around leaky fittings.
Were any leaks found?
Yes
- Repair or replace the faulty component in accordance with the service information.
- Then, go back to the beginning of the Diagnostic Tree for this DTC (P2BA9-00) and start over.
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE DEF QUALITY
- Turn the ignition off.
- Test the qualify of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Refer to DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID EMISSIONS, DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
.
Were there any problems found with the quality of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid?
Yes
- Drain and refill the DEF tank with the correct application Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
- IMPORTANT: THE SCR HEALING PROCEDURE (TEST STEP 7) MUST NOW BE PERFORMED.
- Go To 7
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE DEF VOLUME FROM THE INJECTOR
- Turn ignition off.
- Remove the DEF Injector from the decomposition tube.NOTE:
Leave the DEF Injector harness connector attached to the DEF Injector.
- Place the DEF Injector in a container to capture the fluid sprayed.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, begin the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Injector Quantity Test.NOTE:
This Test is broken up into three parts: 1-Air Bleed/Build Pressure (about 30 seconds/then empty the container), 2-Main Volume Test (a little over one minute), 3-DEF Purge (to remove excess fluid from the lines after the test). The entire procedure will run for 2-3 minutes before timing out. The amount of flow may fluctuate throughout the test, therefore the test must be allowed to run completely in order for the results to be accurate. The fluid should spray out as a mist. There should be no dripping from the holes in the DEF Injector at any time during the duration of the test procedure.
- Measure the amount of fluid sprayed after the test times out.
Does the fluid sprayed measure between 26 ml and 35 ml?
Yes
- Replace the SCR Catalyst in accordance with the service information.
- IMPORTANT: THE SCR HEALING PROCEDURE (TEST STEP 7) MUST NOW BE PERFORMED.
- Go To 7
No
- CHECK THE DEF SUPPLY LINE FOR A RESTRICTION
- CHECK THE DEF INJECTOR OPERATION
- Install the DEF Injector in accordance with the service information.NOTE:
At this time, the DEF Volume test must be performed again.
Is the DEF Volume test result still below 26 ml?
Yes
- Replace the DEF Supply Pump in accordance with the service information.
- IMPORTANT: THE SCR HEALING PROCEDURE (TEST STEP 7) MUST NOW BE PERFORMED.
- Go To 7
No
- Go To 7
- Install the DEF Injector in accordance with the service information.
- PERFORM THE SCR HEALING PROCEDURE
- Verify that the DEF Tank level is between 25% and 85% full.
- Please turn the key off for 45 seconds (Complete after-run).
- Using the scan tool, go Misc. Functions>Perform 'DEF Tank Level Reset'.
- Add 1 gallon of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (to trigger refill detection).NOTE:
The ambient air temperature must be above -7.0°C (19.4°F) to continue with this procedure.
NOTE:The vehicle must be below 6, 800 ft. altitude to continue with this procedure.
- At this time, perform a Service Regeneration procedure. Refer to FILTER, DIESEL PARTICULATE
.NOTE:
This will prevent DPF Regeneration from occurring during the rest of the Healing Procedure.
- With the vehicle at full operating temperature, (Using the scan tool) Verify that the DEF system has pressurized.
- Drive the vehicle at steady highway speeds until the Inducement message on the Cluster is no longer present.NOTE:
Typically a drive of 55 MPH or higher on a highway for 60 minutes should be sufficient.
- The 'Service DEF' message on the EVIC will turn off when this DTC has been successfully healed.
Did the "Service DEF" message turn off?
Yes
- Test Complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
PERFORM THE SCR HEALING PROCEDURE again.
