Section 84 (Heated Glass (Service Information)): Operation

MTC - The manual front and rear defogger systems can be controlled by a momentary switch located on the Integrated Center Stack (ICS). An amber indicator will illuminate whenever either switch is pushed to the ON position.

ATC - The automatic defogger system is controlled by momentary soft switches located in the U-Connect® touch screen. The front or rear defrost switch will illuminate when selected for use.

Depending on ATC or MTC HVAC:

MTC - The Integrated Center Stack sends a message to the BCM over the Can IHS Bus. The BCM uses a low side driver to actuate the relay in the PDC.
ATC - The message is sent from the touch screen over the Can IHS to the BCM which uses a low side driver to actuate the relay.

Wiper De-icer System (if equipped):

Activation by Front Defrost - The Wiper De-icer shall be activated automatically in the case of a cold weather manual start with full Front Defrost, the Blower speed level is greater than 5, and when the ambient temperature is below 40 degrees F.
Activation by Rear Defrost (EBL) - The Wiper De-icer shall be activated automatically when the Rear Defrost is turned on and when the ambient temperature is below 40 degrees F.
Activation by Remote Start Operation - When Remote Start is active and the Outside Ambient temperature is less than 40 degrees F, the Wiper De-Icer shall be enabled. On exiting remote start resume previous operation except, if the De-Icer is active, the De-Icer timer and operation shall continue.

The defogger system will automatically turn off after an initial programmed time interval of about ten minutes, as long as the ignition switch is in RUN. After the initial time interval has expired, if either switch is pressed to ON again during the same ignition cycle, the defogger system will automatically turn off after about five minutes.

Repair of the defogger grid lines, bus bars, terminals or pigtail wires can be accomplished using the Mopar® Rear Window Defogger Repair Kit or equivalent. Refer to GRID, DEFOGGER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

The defogger control system is diagnosed using a scan tool. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
