Diagnostic Test

CHECK FOR EXTERNAL OBJECTS ON THE KEY CHAIN THAT MAY CAUSE INTERFERENCE
NOTE:
An external Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) key (and/or pass/radio key), such as one used to gain access to a 24 hour gym, can cause this DTC to set and create a no start condition.
1. Inspect the customer's key chain for any type of RFID key.
2. If one is not found, question the customer to see if a spare key chain has this RFID key on it or if it was removed from the original key chain before the vehicle was released for service.
  Is there an RFID key or pass present on one of the customer's key chains?
  
  Yes
  - Remove the ignition key from the vehicle and remove the RFID key from the key chain. Disconnect the Battery and wait a minimum of five minutes before reconnecting.
  - Go To 2
  No
  - Go To 2
CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
1. Turn the ignition on.
2. With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
  Is the DTC active?
  
  Yes
  - Go To 3
  No
  - Go To 8
CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
1. Refer to the recorded DTCs.
  Are there any RF Hub or Communication DTCs present?
  
  Yes
  - Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to 3.2L - DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
  No
  - Go To 4
CHECK FOR CORRECT VIN PROGRAMMED INTO PCM
1. With the scan tool, display the VIN that is programmed in the PCM.
  Has the correct VIN been programmed into the PCM?
  
  Yes
  - Go To 6
  No
  - Program the correct VIN into the PCM and retest.
  - Perform the RF HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
CHECK THE IGNITION KEY
NOTE:
You must obtain the SKIM pin number.

NOTE:
This DTC could have been set if the RF Hub harness connector was disconnected or if the RF Hub was replaced recently.

NOTE:
All keys that the customer uses for this vehicle must be tested to verify they are operating properly.
1. Using the scan tool, program each customers key to the vehicle.
2. Attempt to crank and start the engine using each key.
3. With the scan tool, read the PCM DTCs.
  Did the P0513 DTC return with any key?
  
  Yes
  - Replace the Ignition Key.
  - Perform the RF HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
  No
  - Go To 6
REPLACE THE RF HUB AND CHECK FOR DTC
1. Turn the ignition off.
2. Replace and program the RF Hub in accordance with the Service Information.
  NOTE:
  If this vehicle is equipped with a Steering Column Lock Module, it must be replaced along with the RF Hub.
3. Turn the ignition on.
4. With the scan tool, erase all RF Hub and PCM DTCs.
5. Attempt to start and idle the engine.
6. With the scan tool, read the PCM DTCs.
  Does the scan tool display this DTC?
  
  Yes
  - Go To 7
  No
  - Replacing the RF Hub repaired the fault.
  - Perform the RF HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
CHECK RELATED PCM AND COMPONENT CONNECTIONS
1. Perform any Service Bulletins that apply.
2. Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
3. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
4. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
5. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
  - Proper connector installation.
  - Damaged connector locks.
  - Corrosion.
  - Other signs of water intrusion.
  - Weather seal damage (if equipped).
  - Bent terminals.
  - Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
  - Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
  - Check for spread terminals and verify proper terminal tension.
  Repair any conditions that are found.
6. Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
7. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
8. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
9. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
10. Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
11. With the scan tool, read DTCs.
  Did the DTC return?
  
  Yes
  - Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL, 2.4L/3.2L .
  - Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 3.2L .
  No
  - The wiring or poor connection problem has been repaired.
  - Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST, 3.2L .
CHECK THE IGNITION KEYS
NOTE:
You must obtain the SKIM pin number.

This DTC could have been set if the RF Hub harness connector was disconnected or if the RF Hub was replaced recently.

NOTE:

2. Verify the correct VIN is programmed into the PCM and RF Hub.
3. Turn the ignition off.
4. Attempt to crank and start the engine using each key.
5. With the scan tool, read the PCM DTCs.
  Did the P0513 DTC return with any key?
  
  Yes
  - Replace the Ignition Key.
  - Perform the RF HUB VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to RADIO FREQUENCY HUB (RF HUB) VERIFICATION TEST .
  No
  - Test Complete.
  - If this DTC cannot be reset, it could have been an actual theft attempt or caused by Radio-Frequency interference. Check for the following, but not limited to:
    - An external Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) key (and/or pass/radio key), such as one used to gain access to a 24 hour gym.
    - Aftermarket alarms or auto start systems
    - RF gate cards or door opener
    - GPS units in vehicle
    - Gas station speed passes
