The Electric Park Brake (EPB) actuator must be retracted prior to removing the brake caliper assembly. This can be done in two ways:
- A diagnostic scan tool (Service Mode position).
- Through Uconnect
CAUTION:
If the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch is actuated with the caliper removed from the caliper bracket and still connected electrically, the EPB motor will fully extend causing damage to the caliper piston. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable before servicing any EPB component.
- Using a brake pedal holding tool, depress the brake pedal past its first one inch of travel and hold it in this position. This will isolate the master cylinder from the brake hydraulic system and will not allow the brake fluid to drain out of the master cylinder reservoir while the lines are disconnected.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL
.
- Remove the nut and brake line bracket (2) from the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake line (3) from the flex hose (4).
- While holding guide pins from turning, remove caliper guide pin bolts (3).
- Slide and remove the disc brake caliper from the disc brake adapter bracket.
