Section 62 (Navigation/Telecommunication (Service Information)): Microphone: Description
Vehicles equipped with the optional hands-free system have two stereo microphones (2) mounted in the top surface of the inside rear view mirror housing (1), one to each side of center. The two microphones are individually powered by and provide hard wired inputs to the Radio Receiver Module (RRM) in the instrument panel whenever the Voice Recognition (VR) feature of the hands-free system is active. These two microphones are connected to the vehicle electrical system through a connector receptacle integral to the forward-facing surface of the inside rear view mirror housing by a dedicated take out and connector of the overhead wire harness.
In vehicles equipped with the optional Uconnect™ Access system, the inside rear view mirror system also houses both a 9-1-1 push button (3) and an Assist push button (5).
The microphones cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if damaged or ineffective, they must be replaced as a unit with the inside rear view mirror assembly.
