Lane Departure Warning

Lane Departure Warning Plus (LDW+) - This system is an available option offered on vehicles equipped with Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and the Forward Facing camera (FFC). The system can be turned ON or OFF using a single hard button located in the Integrated Center Stack (ICS). The Light Emitting Diode (LED) button will inform the driver of the system status when the driver is not on the "Drive Assist" screen in the radio. The system operates when enabled above 60 km/h (37 mph) and below 160 km/h (100 mph).

The LDW+ system issues a warning alert to the driver in case of an unintended lane departure. An example of an unintentional lane departure would be when the driver does not use the turn signals beforehand to confirm a planned lane change. The LDW+ system uses the Forward Facing Camera (FFC) to detect lane markings and measure vehicle position within those lane boundaries. The warning can be audible, visual or a haptic feedback to the driver. The haptic feedback is a vibration in the steering wheel that feels like a virtual "rumble strip" induced by the electronic powered steering (EPS) system. If the driver continues to unintentionally drift out of the lane, the system provides a visual warning to prompt the driver to adjust the vehicles trajectory to remain within the lane boundaries. When only a single lane marking is detected and the driver unintentionally drifts across the lane marking, the LDW+ system provides a visual warning through the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) to prompt the driver to remain within the lane. When only a single lane marking is detected, as haptic warning will not be provided. The driver may manually override the haptic warning by applying torque to the steering wheel at any time. The use of the turn signal suppresses the warning.

No Hands Recognition Strategy - When operating conditions have been met, the LDW+ system will employ a "No Hands Recognition Strategy". The system monitors the torque sensor inside the EPS to verify the drivers hands remain on the wheel. If the hands are not detected, this will cause an audible warning to the driver consisting of left front and right front chimes as well as displaying a visual warning message. The strategy will cancel LDW+ operation if the driver does not return their hands to the wheel. The driver can configure the torque feedback amount and warning zone start point through personalization settings in the radio. Three settings for each are provided.

The LDW+ system will indicate the current lane drift condition through the IPC. When the LDW+ system is ON, the lane lines are gray when the lane boundaries have not been detected and the LDW+ indicator is solid white.

Changing LDW+ Status:

Press the "Controls" soft-key located on the bottom of the Uconnect® system screen.
Press the "Settings" soft-key.
Press the "Safety and Driving Assistance" soft-key.

Personalization Settings:

The LDW+ system can be enabled/disabled by using an ON/OFF defeat switch with indicator (indicator ON when system is OFF). The indicator will remain ON when a fault is detected in the LDW+ system.
The LDW+ system retains the last system state (enabled or disabled) from the last ignition cycle when the ignition is changed to the ON/RUN position.
The LDW+ system has a lane warning sensitivity setting to adjust earliest to latest haptic feedback warning levels (early, medium, late) located within the personalization settings.
The LDW+ system retains the last lane warning sensitivity setting from the last ignition cycle when the ignition is changed to the ON/RUN position.
The LDW+ system has a torque intensity setting to adjust the torque level (low, medium, high) of the haptic warning located within the personalization settings.
The LDW+ lane sensitivity and torque intensity settings will not be locked out during driving.
